McGee at Large

Give Me a Whoop Whoop If You Agree

On transmissions, federal work, and the constitution of the people handling it.

People say the cartels ruined it. That's part of it, sure. But I was around when the bikers had it, and I'm gonna tell you something — when the bikers had it, there was accountability. You knew a guy. The guy knew you. There was a relationship there. Now it comes up from wherever it comes up from, through eleven hands, and nobody's answerable to anybody. That's not a drug problem. That's a business problem. I don't expect the young guys to understand that because they've never seen it work correctly.

I remember one time, and this was outside Sturgis, seventy-eight, seventy-nine — I don't want to say the year — but I was up for four days and I helped a man rebuild a transmission. Not that I knew how. But I knew by the end of it. That's what I'm talking about. You got something out of it.

And let me tell you something else about that transmission job, because it connects. You young guys think you've had it hard. You ever had a condom of high-grade cocaine up your ass for eleven hours? I'm not being crude, I'm being educational. Last time I was doing federal work, and I'm not the only man with this story — you ask around — that was just Tuesday. That was the job. Nobody complained. Nobody wrote a post about it.

The kids today do not have the asshole fortitude for this line of work. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. It's not the drugs that got soft, it's the constitution of the people handling them. Actually, no, the drugs got soft too. Both things are true.

I've been off parole two years now. Doing pretty well. You do your time, that's what you're supposed to do. Nobody owes you anything for it. I've got this apartment I'm renting, and the landlord and I have an understanding. I keep it nice. You can come by and you wouldn't know a thing.

Dope was better back in the day. Everybody who knows, knows. There's some know-it-alls out there who think they've got it figured out with their chemistry. They don't.

Give me a whoop whoop if you agree.
